I learned water-colour painting from Howard Carlisle in the St Mary’s church hall in Fink Hill for about 20 years, and then spent 2 years abroad in Tanzania doing my profession (eye work with children). When I returned to Leeds, I went to the college of Art and Design for a year which I revelled in. It introduced me to techniques I had not met before and I started doing things on a large scale while I was there.
I now far prefer acrylics and have done some large works for major festivals in St George’s Church, Leeds in the last 3 years. I designed the banner over the stable which was shown prominently during the televised Christmas Day service on the BBC (Banner close-up). This was made by a team of 7 and contributions from the whole congregation were added one Sunday in October.
I like to paint in bright colours and have done quite a few acrylics of African children and I sell all my works in aid of a children’s home in Tanzania (www.amanikids.org).
