For further information please visit our Facebook page for frequently asked questions.
The Walk of ART – is a free, community-led, family friendly, diverse and inclusive, creative festival that engages the entire community. We aim to showcase creativity in everyday and unusual spaces. We promote and showcase local and almost local artists, engage and inspire the community and make creativity, in all its forms, accessible and engaging. The event is shaped by the participants.
When does it happen?
It is happening on the 4th and 5th July 2020 from 11am – 5pm.
Each year we provide a theme so artists, residents, businesses and venues can immerse themselves in the spirit of the festival. This is completely optional but has proved very popular in the past.
The theme for 2020 is…
In the Jungle
The Walk is spread over 9 miles of Horsforth across 3 routes and the exhibitions and events are housed in roughly 80 donated locations – high street shops, churches, woodlands, the park, garages, gardens, houses, sheds and caravans. There are no spaces we wouldn’t consider.
Did you know that in 2019 we:
Created over 600 pieces of art, produced from local schools for our high street gallery
Made and hid 500 mascots throughout the festival, all created and donated by the community
Saw over 120 artists participating in 83 venues
Created and hung 74 wooden whales designed by schools and other community groups
Who are the Walk of Art Team?
The walk of art has a small admin team at its core who help to enable and promote the woa.
This years team are:
Kezia Roberts – Event manager
Claire Markwell – Maps and application lead
Alison Colley – Artist Liaison
Louise Roberts – Schools liaison and high street gallery coordinator
Anne Buxton – Wooden theme project manager
Penny Pinn – Treasurer
Kath Rolls – Mascot lead and route coordinator
TBC (This could be you!) – Digital designer
We are joined by many other volunteers who give their time freely to help make the Walk of Art possible, from putting up posters and wooden themed creatures at the schools to organizing mini events. Without the help of our lovely community owning this, the Walk of Art just wouldn’t be the success it is.
We love our community
The Walk of Art is committed to environmental sustainability and support all participants in creating greener events.
